M5 Community Support Field Trip
Our students from M5 spent January and the first part of February raising money for their annual camp to the Southern Provences of Thailand. The aim was to raise money to take students from a blind school on a camp with them. Fundraising was achieved in a number of ways. The students created their own products to sell to their peers and teachers, went to markets for donations before the school day started, and were the hosts of the fun filled and very successful PHS Annual Fair; proceeds from all went to the charity.
This year we linked up with the CFBT (Christian Foundation for the Blind in Thailand) School, Roi-Et. The students from Roi-Et traveled down to Petcharat Resort, Muak Lek, Saraburi from 10-11th February 2018 and met our students for activities. These included nature walks, swimming, and playing musical instruments. This year’s M5 PHS students were a sporty bunch, so CFBT Roi-Et school brought along their Goalball team to play against PHS. Not surprisingly, PHS lost!
The weekend involved a lot of getting to know each other through PHS students running their activities for the blind students. The donations were handed to the school, and the PHS M5 team met with the teachers from the Roi-Et school to discuss the needs of the school so any remaining money from the camp could be donated to help CFBT Roi-Et school in the most appropriate ways.
This year the M5 students raised 178,000 Baht for Christian Foundation for the Blind in Thailand school, which is testament to their dedication and determination. Our students amazing willingness to help brings the total raised over the last 3 years to 403,000 Baht.
This year’s annual trip demonstrates our students’ empathy towards others; and highlights positive traits which we desire young adults to develop to become positive members of their society. Congratulations, and thank you, to all students and teachers for their unwavering dedication and commitment both before and during this fantastic experience.
